Shelly Matthys, Executive Director

Shelly graduated from Seattle University Law School in 1995 and then worked as a volunteer prosecutor at the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office. A staff attorney with the clinic for 16 years, Shelly most recently served as lead attorney and manager of the Multnomah County office. Her practice has focused on custody, parenting time, and support in cases of domestic violence, substance abuse, and mental health issues. She became the Executive Director of the Clinic in January 2014.

Portland Office


Suzie Bruce 

Suzie began working for St. Andrew Legal Clinic in the fall of 2014. She has a background in insurance defense litigation and tax research, but was a Night Clinic volunteer for St. Andrew Legal Clinic for several years. Suzie graduated from Lewis and Clark Law School in 2011. During law school, Suzie clerked for the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office. She also worked for a Boston based non-profit focusing on family law and immigration law. Suzie graduated from University of Oregon in 2008. She is an Oregon native. 

James F. LaSasso

James graduated from University of Oregon Law School in 1981. After law school James worked throughout the 80's as a law clerk, paralegal, and in private practice primarily in the area of family law. In 1990, James joined SALC and has been working as a staff attorney ever since.

Connie C. Lukes

After a career in telecommunications and acting as a union steward, Connie Lukes decided to expand on her interest in conflict management and graduated from Marylhurst University in 2002 with a degree in communications, concentrating in mediation and conflict resolution. She has acted as a volunteer mediator for several years. While attending Lewis and Clark Law School, Connie worked as a law clerk at St. Andrew while interning at Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office and Lewis and Clark Legal Clinic. After being admitted to practice law in the spring of 2006, Connie worked as a contract attorney while working as a volunteer attorney in St. Andrew night clinic. She was hired as a staff attorney in the fall of 2006.

Alex S. Ogurek

Alex joined St. Andrew as an attorney in 2014. While in school, Alex clerked at the Clackamas County office. He graduated from the night program at Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon, where he focused on family law and elder law. He also graduated with honors from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, where he focused on hiking and camping. In his spare time, Alex enjoys swimming, cooking, reading about science stuff, and fun.


Amy N. Reid

Amy graduated Cum Laude from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2015 with a Public Interest Law certificate with a focus in family and juvenile law. Amy hails from Georgia and completed her undgrad at Auburn University in 2009. She came to Oregon after finishing two years with AmeriCorps. While Amy was in law school at Lewis & Clark she worked as a certified law student in St. Andrew's Portland office and decided to further her career with us after graduation. In her spare time Amy enjoys spending time with her dogs going on hikes. 

Washington County Office

Michael D. Hess

Michael Hess is a 2008 graduate of the Willamette University College of Law. He was selected to be a member of The Order of Barristers, a national organization that recognizes outstanding courtroom advocacy. Before law school, Michael lived in Washington DC where he served on the staff for members of the House of Representatives. He also worked for a national environmental advocacy group and a national public relations firm. Michael graduated cum laude with a BA degree in English and History from the University of the Pacific (Stockton, CA) in 1996. Before joining SALC, Michael was an associate at Kramer & Associates. In his spare time, Michael officiates high school football as a member of the Portland Football Officials Association. Originally from California, Michael spends his free time with his wife and three children, exploring everything the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

Kelly D. Lemarr

Kelly is a graduate of Willamette University College of Law and a practicing attorney in Oregon since 2003. Since then she has focused her practice on a wide range of family law issues. In addition to her work at SALC, Kelly accepts pro bono court appointments as the attorney for children in high conflict domestic relations cases.
